Chile Earthquake

Today I feel so bad;
Paltry and sad.
So many people got killed.
So many families along with.

I don't know who they are.
They are not my relatives,
Nor that they ever were.
But still, I feel sad.

Can anybody tell me why,
People around the world, stupid or sly,
Feel bad when it comes to pain,
Upon whosoever it might rain ?

I can tell you why.
For though we are different,
And thousands of miles are between us,
We are all humans, and we do have feelings.

Occam's Razor

Simple thoughts start crossing my mind.
Thoughts really simple, no pretensions,
No abstractions and no twists of truth.
And I got carried away.
There she was, clad moon-white,
Like the thoughts I just had,
No pretensions and no worry,
Unblocking all the way.

Then came the truth,
Shockingly uncouth.
Simple and profound,
Like a mellow sound.
The sweetest kiss ever,
That no brute can sever.

Africa

Dust storm ahead, warned my mentor.
I had glasses on, and no need to worry;
"Keep your face down" was the instruction.
I proceeded to do the same, sans any hurry.

I am in Africa, the land of wonders;
Where the mighty Sahara on the North
Effortlessly mixes with deep rainforests.
I am in Africa, the land of faith;
Where people from diverse states
Have fought, since time immemorial,
To protect their belief from invaders,
As any sane man would do.
And they were hospitable enough,
That despite the so many civil wars they faced,
Foreigners have never thought it alien.
In fact, it was in Africa, that simple faith found its way
To civilization in ancient times. And to utter exploitation,
In the modern age.

Still, the faith was there. And it still is.
How long, my friend, shall we continue ignoring that faith?
Can you tell me just how long?

A continent of diversity.
Desert, the Nile, the Table Mountain,
The Rainforest, the Zebra, the Gnu.
Wild herds of deer running for life,
Packs of elephant strolling against a setting sun as bright as ever.

How can the people be so wrong?

A Trip

It's like a new fragrance;
A mild puff, a little curl.
That takes your mind away.
Away, away, and away,
From every work and duty.
Tropical islands, wild savannah,
Camels across the desert,
Gazelles romping the prairie.
Take whatever you want,
Stay as long as it takes.

But make sure you have it.
Make sure you have it full,
May be even in abundance.
Make sure the life you get
Sustain you for the rest of your journey.
Bon Voyage!

The Perfume

A slight whiff goes into my soul,
With it comes the fragrance.
As I dream of a tropical bowl,
My mind starts to dance.
Steps, steps and steps I take,
Left, right and left yet again,
Meters come as a nifty cake,
Like ripples going on a surly chain.

And off they go to mix in flight,
On their way to pure delight,
As my sultry steps astride
Shed their all ego.
Cool to watch, I sense in spree,
Today my mind does want to be free,
Silent wonder darts as a bee,
Goes ahead my niño.

Dream

Figments of dream we are;
Of the fairness in love and war
Reigns supreme the "dream".
Coming of pristine sleep
Unknown and slightly a-creep,
Floats the dream everywhere.
Empires rise and fall
Like men, short or tall;
Hey, can you hear the scream?
From distant grounds of mind
Trills the shadowy call behind
Think not ye, but dream anywhere.

Logic

Suddenly I want to feel illogical;
My mind flutters its wings of nonsense.
Let the scribe in me fail today
Rather infallibly. And let
My freedom of joy find expressions
In a multi-colored backdrop of life,
Ever unknown and limitless.

Independence

Whose independence is this?
I wonder silently, but my mind
Wants to scream aloud,
Replete with emotion and despondence.

But somehow, and in some queer way,
Every time I get used to finding my voice stifled,
My armor but a rusty remnant of its hoary past,
And my pen, once mightier than my sword, now finds solace
In somnolent dust.

Such IS life, ain't it?
